Eagles second away fixture on the bounce saw us visit the Farncombe Honey Badgers!
The boys arrived early keen to don the new away kit kindly supplied by Octopus Energy which looks fantastic!
P1 - The Eagles began well against a well drilled and talented Farncombe team. Alfred was a rock at the centre of defence, protecting Alexander in goal and showing the discipline to stay in the centre when the rest of the team were pushing forward. The boys battled well with Tommy and Max attacking down the flanks with Leo running the midfield and Rui upfront. The opening period was tight with neither side able to break the deadlock.
P2 - saw Alfred continue where he left of with several crucial tackles and Max hit the post with his shot after cutting in from the left. Eagles made the early breakthrough with Leo scoring with a neat finish after a break from midfield, before taking the ball from Max and doubling his and Albury’s tally! Digby then went on a fabulous run down the right before crossing the ball perfectly for Max to make it 3-0. Leo then went close with a spectacular effort from long range that whistled past the upright. Alexander was dependable as ever in goal keeping out the home side and ensuring Eagles had a healthy lead at the half.
P3 - was very tight just like the first, with nothing really between the two teams. Our dependable captain Tommy patrolled the left flank but came up against a resolute defence. Leo had a shot that went just wide and so did the Honey Badgers. Digby was now the central rock in our defence with Jack leading the line, doing his best to put their defence under pressure. Both sides cancelled each other out so our lead remained going into the final period.
P4 - the final period saw the Eagles begin to tire and Farncombe punish us for pushing forwards. Digby volunteered to go in goal but was helpless as Farncombe hit 3 quick fire goals to level the score. We missed our rock Alfred at the back and the hosts scored another to take the lead. For a second the boys heads seemed to drop but they battled on with only minutes to go on the clock. With Jack off injured Leo returned and hit a shot from distance the keeper could only parry. The ball fell into the path of Rui, who from 5 yards slotted the ball home to level the scores with the final kick of the game!
Congratulations boys for working so hard and not giving up when Farncombe fought back at the end. Many thanks to Octopus Energy for our fantastic new outfit!
