Eagles Bounce Back in Style!

Albury Eagles made the short journey to Dorking to take on Dorkinians Yellows, keen to put recent results behind them and return to winning ways.
P1 - Albury began well sticking to their positions and trying hard to pass the ball when they could. Alfred continued where he left off last week at centre back, thwarting any Dorking attack and protecting Alexander in goal who was rarely troubled in the first half. Eagles were rewarded early on when their pressure earned them a corner. The resulting set piece was met on the volley by Tommy, 1-0!
P2 - saw the Eagles dominate and Max put us 2 up when he finished from close range after a superb cross from Digby. Max wasn’t finished and grabbed his second when he cut in from the left and shot from distance beating the keeper with a shot to the far post. Not to be outdone Leo who was battling well in midfield and had already gone close with a couple of left footed efforts, then let fly from 20 yards beating the keeper with a screamer into the top corner. Captain Digby who was running their defence ragged found himself in space on the left and was unlucky not to score as his shot went narrowly over the bar. A four goal lead meant Dorking were able to bring on an extra player, meaning we were now 6 v 7.
P3 - saw Alexander relinquish the gloves and move into left wingback position where he kept his position and attacked the Dorking right side. Jack returned to the fray and continued to put pressure on the Dorking backline, nearly getting himself on the scoresheet. Rui who battled well in midfield despite the increase in home numbers, found himself room and scored to make it 5-0. Max then completed his second hat trick of the season to complete the Eagles scoring while at the other end Tommy was at his acrobatic best to keep the Yellows out.
P4 - With Eagles now playing against eight there was little room on the pitch and they found it increasingly difficult to fashion any clearcut chances. Rui however, battled against a congested midfield and was rewarded with a free kick just outside the area. The Dorking wall blocked the set piece and the ball came back to Rui who’s shot went narrowly wide. The home side continued to search for a goal and were rewarded for their efforts.
Albury seemed to learn and grow from last weeks defeat. They were all much more disciplined with their positional play and tried hard to pass the ball, particularly in the first half before the pitch became crowded. Eagles can be proud of their great behaviour and attitude too, as commented on by the Dorking Coach.
