On a beautiful morning in Sept, in leafy Loxwood, Albury Hawks kicked off the new season. It was clear the team had all eaten at least three shredded wheat, because they started the game with a great energy, with George and Arthur having the first shots on target after a dominant start.
After 5 mins of running, Arthur signalled to the bench that he needed to be subbed off, much to the amusement of the watching crowd. He was quickly told to carry on, and almost instantly conjured up the first goal from an extraordinary tight angle. Incredible.
And from that point on, it was all Hawks. Will to Max, who with a great finish added the second, swiftly followed by a long range worldie from Thomas making it three. Top bins.
With Kieron and Freddie bossing the midfield, Max returned the favor to Will, who popped up at the far post, and we made it to half time four goals to the good.
After the break, normal service resumed.Lucian had a corner blocked, and decided to launch a long range effort, which just dipped under the crossbar. A beauty of a goal.
At this point, it was agreed that Loxwood should put on an extra player, and this helped to make the scoreline more respectful for the hosts, but towards the end of the game, Aaron playing the lone striker, decided to bag himself a quick fire brace with two low, left foot cannons. Two fantastic finishes. George played in an unfamilar number 6 role - but stuck to his task and refused to allow space for the oppostion.
As the game drew to a close, everyone was looking for Freddie's twin as it had seemed there was at least two of him playing. He was everywhere. A well deserved MoTM.
So, the first game of the new season done. Six different goal scorers and a Hawks side looking well up for the next game. Onwards we go.
