The return match. The great rivalry between the Hawks and the Martians reignited.
With a short-handed team as we approached the Xmas break, the team made their way over to the bleak landscape that is Horsell. Kieran almost too unwell to play somehow made it to the game.
The boys looked up for it and with a shrill of a whistle from the jaunty ref, the game began.
The boys made a fast start, closing down the opposition quickly and it didn't take long before this paid dividends.
Aaron with some scintillating wing work, crossing the ball for Arthur to expertly finish in the bottom corner.
After the restart, it was more of the same. With Thomas dominating the midfield, it was George who picked up a loose ball before rifling it towards goal, where it took a deflection off a Martian player and nestled in the net.
Shortly after, was the big talking point of the game with a spectacular half volley from Will being ruled out for heading of the ball, even though a shoulder was involved. The confidence levels were up!
Despite this, and with Kieron in goal having little to do, it didn't take long before the next goal arrived via a rasping drive from Thomas.
In the second half, normal service resumed, with a number of fine shots from George and Thomas saved spectacularly by the Martian keeper, including another ruled out goal after some fine work by the fox in the box, George.
And so, perhaps rightly, the game was put to bed by these two, with Thomas finding a fine pass to George who swept the ball into net after some great Midfield battling from Kieron to break up the play beforehand. The defence were rarely troubled with Lucian and William controlling the area well. Nothing was getting past them.
Arthur had continued run after run down the right wing and was working hard to help at the back as well. What a battling performance we were seeing.
So it finished with a win to the Hawks. A very tidy clean sheet, a dominating midfield performance and some fine clinical finishing up front. Can they keep these performances up? Tune in next week to find out.
MOTM to Arthur for a fantastic all round display.
