The Eagles girls played a highly competitive match against Epsom and Ewell girls on Sunday morning at The Heath.
The teams were very evenly matched in the first half and both had chances to score. The Epsom and Ewell girls came closest to scoring halfway through the first half and only a diving fingertip save by Seren kept the scores level.
With Freya, Livs and Maiya making strong challenges in the midfield the Albury team started to take control and they finished the half on top but hadn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
With Emma and Stella coming on at half time to help put the opposition under pressure the Eagles started to mount attacks and five minutes into the half, Lyla raced clear and fired the ball into the bottom corner of the Epsom and Ewell goal.
What then followed was a period of sustained pressure from the Epsom and Ewell team who dominated possession and had a succession of corners but strong defending from Heidi ,Molly Ruby and Bonnie ensured that they didn’t get the ball in the back of the net.
With 2 minutes left on the clock, Livs took up the ball on the halfway line and ran passed the covering defence to score the goal that ensured another win for the Eagles.
A great game to watch, played in a fantastic spirit by both teams and we now look forward to visiting Epsom and Ewell in the new year for the return fixture
