Last Sunday it was a beautiful autumn morning on the Heath. The Eagles girls played the Cobham Lionesses in a hard fought game. Both sides had to dig deep and there were opportunities for goals at both ends of the pitch.
A surprise Goal by Ella after 15 minutes went against the pattern of play and got the Eagles in to the lead. The strong defence from the Eagles was needed to keep the Lionesses from scoring. Some brave play from the Eagles goalie Seren who dived on the some loose balls in the box to keep another clean sheet. Lyla up front caused problems for the Lionesses defence with some blistering runs and in the second half Emma B won some much needed corners with a chips and runs down the left channel.
The second half was very even. The Lionesses looked like they had a goal coming to them with the first 10 minutes played in the Eagles half. Strong defence from Heidi and Ruby kept them off the score sheet, and a last gasp defence by Maiya was all that stood between the Lionesses and a goal 5 minutes later. Momentum then shifted and the Eagles played in the Lionesses half. After another cannon ball like throw from Tabitha, the ball bounced for Lyla, was touched by Emma and then a Lioness defender was forced to head it for an own goal putting them two nil up.
The Eagles slowed down the pace and played to the corner to get a well deserved win at home. (2-0).
